Back in Action

Finally the weather in Arizona is nice enough that I can actually get back in my garage and start working on pieces. I have a dining room set with 4 chairs I am almost finished with, and coffee table, and I am starting on my little wooden sewing table.
Even though my Daughter has me running her around every where I am going to use whatever time I have when I am not working my full time job, being a wife, and Mother, and taxi service to get back to doing what I love, and that is refinishing furniture.

So Stay tuned and I hope to post some new pieces soon.

I still have my Kent-Coffey High-Boy dresser for sale, and I am sacrificing and selling it for $350, and that is a steal. It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. Not only is it a very rare dresser from the "ablemarle" collection, but now that I refinished it, you will never see another dresser like it.
It would make an amazing Christmas present for some one special in your life.
It is in excellent shape, and the drawers are all dove tail. There is no structural damage, and it has all of its original hardware.
So if you are interested please let me know

I May Be Down to One Arm, But I Am Not Out

I had Surgery on my left elbow Friday May 13th to repair a tear in a tendon and to hopefully rid me of my painful tennis elbow I've had for over a year now.
I am not to use my left arm or hand at all for at least 10 days. Trust me when I say the Doctors don't have to worry about me not following directions because if I move a finger on my left side it hurts real bad.
The pain in my elbow has been very significant and has kept me up at night, and the first night after my surgery I couldn't get comfortable and the pain kept me awake so I went out to my garage to see how well I can paint with just my right arm. Well I am happy to report that I can still paint, which means I can continue to turn out some new pieces.
I am not allowed to work for almost a month due to the type of job I have and do. My tennis elbow which required me to have surgery is a work related injury. My job will not let me come to work with a one arm restriction, so until my Doctor releases me and lifts the one arm restriction I am stuck at home.
This morning was my first day off work and I had a small panic attack as I realized I was not going to work and I have no idea to do with myself and the fact I only have the use of one arm.

Well my Sister is currently unemployed so we are planning different things to do, plus since I can paint I plan on trying to get out a few pieces during my time off.
So stay tuned I am almost done with a dining room set and a coffee table. Plus my birthday was yesterday and my Best Friend gave me $50 gift card to Home Depot, so I went and bought paint for some end tables I want to finish and I bought paint for a desk I am redoing for my 10 year old Daughter.
So I think I can keep myself busy and won't go crazy while my elbow heals.

now I must go lay down.

This Past Weekend Finds

I found some really good items this past weekend and here they are...

This is a cute little sew table I found. The top part swings out, and is for holding thread.
And the bottom drawer just pulls out for holding misc items.

And next in this little side table I got at a Yard Sale for the most amazing price.
It has a slide out drawer at the top and the super cute white glass knobs

Then a dear Friend brought over this awesome desk
I can't wait to finish this desk. I am considering making it a girls desk and painting it light purple, but if anyone is interested in anything on my website please email me and I will paint it however you want.

Then I found 2 matching end tables that I love, and have the same handles as another wood desk I have. I found the 2 end tables at a yard sale for a super great price for the two.
I only did a picture of one, but I have 2 of these matching end tables

Then I found this other end table at an yard sale as well.
And I have one more awesome desk that is bigger than the one in this post and looks pretty similar. I will be keeping one of the wood desk to do for my 10yr old daughter. I am letting her pick out the paint which makes me a little nervous, but I told her I do have veto power

1920's Kent-Coffey High-Boy Dresser "the Ablemarle" Collection

I posted earlier when I found this dresser that it is a Kent-Coffey High-Boy Dresser and that it is a very rare piece. I have only been able to find one other dresser in this exact style in California. So to refresh your memories this is the information I found on this dresser and the company.

Kent-Coffey was owned by Harold Coffey he lived and started his business in Lenoir, North Carolina, and was a neighbor of James Broyhill, and Bernardt.
When he started making his furniture in the early 1900's most people could not afford his furniture so he sold it mainly to hotels. In the 1950's and 60's his pieces were more affordable and have since become very popular with Baby Boomers because it was the furniture their parents had when they were kids.
At some point Kent-Coffey Mfg company was sold to singer and some point in the early 1990's the company went bankrupt.

I came across this amazing piece in a local Goodwill, and when I saw it I about freaked out. My Sister was with me and looked at the dresser, and then looked at me like I was crazy. It was, oh how should I say this, it was very well loved. Although it looked rough on outward appearances it was a solid dresser. I just had to have it.
It has a small piece of wood missing on the top and some deep scratches on the surfaces. So I had my Husband sand it down and proceed to give it some TLC.
This dresser is made of Maple wood.

I saw and idea on one of my favorite blogs here and thought of an way I could very cleverly cover the little piece of missing wood.
I came up with the idea of using real postcards from the early 1900's. I found some online and was so happy when they finally came.
I Mod-podged the postcards to the top of the dresser and then put polyurethane onto of them as well.
I couldn't be more happier with the way it came out.

So here is my dresser

I kept the original drawer pulls just as they were I didn't want to mess with the patina
I flipped some of the postcards up so you can see the dates.

This is the second drawer from the bottom and it has a nice divider in it.

This Gorgeous, One of a kind dresser is FOR SALE for $465

Please email me if you are interested in buying it.
